As in the previous example, this line should be practised slowly at first. While the previous one centred in the 3rd fret position, this beautiful solo is in the 5th fret position. Difficulty level is at Intermediate Reading (although tab is provided), and Phrasing is in the Jazz Manner. ![martino-like2.gif](https://guitararts.tripod.com//sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/martino-like2.gif)
The first bar may be thusly analyzed: First four notes outline a Bbmajor7th arpeggio up to the fifth note (first note, third beat), then descends chromatically down to the G. The second bar may be analyzed thus: First four notes form the G Aeolian Mode starting at the root, then proceeds up a major second, minor third and lastly perfect fourth. The last note may also be interpreted as the minor 7th of the Dminor7th arpeggio, which is outlined in the next four note grouping. Both of Pat's lines (on this page and the previous) are suitably superimposed over a G minor tonal centre. Most obvious of which is the Gminor7th chord and it's extensions. The logic of these superimposed chordal forms do not become apparent until one has taken the ideas and applied them concurrent to one's developing sense of melody, even which can be simply analyzed in the field of melodic and harmonic theory. Note: There is a mistake in the second last note in this chart however. It is meant to be an F natural and not an E as written. |
